Fiona Lau and Kain Picken are the multi-hyphenate creators and artistic globetrotters behind FFixxed Studios, a cosmopolitan label HQ’d near Hong Kong. Their SS19 get-ups, showcased in Paris yesterday, were witty, whimsical, graphic and full of gall.
In their cosmic fashion canvas, FFixxed Studios’ fibrillating forms, surreal silhouettes and irradiating colorways absorb us as we absorb them, creating psychic ruptures and avant-garde worm holes. Drawing upon an eclectic range of references, both global and personal, including DIY spirituality, majestic topography (think the Bhutan Mountains), nature, abstract art and hybrid styling, the Shenzhen-based brand blew us away.
The idiosyncratic output consisted of printed, solid and striped shirt-dresses for him and her; dynamically draped ensembles with artsy cut-outs and asymmetrical hemlines; dark flower-prints that pop hard; avant-garde athletic gear and unexpected, deconstructed details with an organic feel. Lighthearted and charming with a hint of playful irony, FFixxed’s looks revealed a conceptual, narrative-driven approach to ready-to-wear. We love you, Fiona and Kain!
