DISEASE EXPERTISE: DEBORAH BIRX - DATA SORCERESS + DOYENNE OF OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE
In this existential moment punctuated by paralysis and fear, we are all navigating uncertainty and dread. Dealing with the double whammy of a killer phantom virus and a sudden stop economy, it’s easy to lose patience and hope, especially in the absence of a good haircut/color treatment (we’re all showing our true colors at this point) and this unexpectedly sedentary life marked by ‘social distancing’ and withdrawal.
But one lady shines like a super nova. She’s not defined by the fashion she wears or the number of likes on her page. She's beyond all that. She is mission-driven and committed to defeating this spontaneous bug. She is a force in the fight against HIV/AIDS, a pioneering doctor, a seasoned warrior, an alpha girl extraordinaire; mom, wife, daughter and badass virus hunter making the world a better place. Her name is Dr. Deborah Birx and we are totally smitten. She is a bonafide role model, genuine germ slayer, steamy statistician and dreamy data scientist. The boys at the White House have been swooning.
Her awe-inspiring work tackling global health issues started as an army physician and evolved into a dauntless epidemiologist. She led one of the most influential HIV trials ever, demonstrating that a preventative HIV vaccine was possible. Dr. Birx is a real-deal role model, ambassador at large and heroic disease fighter.
We love her enthusiasm, dedication, colorful scarves, comforting voice and diplomatic skills. She has been able to convince three different administrations of the importance of saving lives. We salute you, Dr. Birx.
